What businesses use
What Quebec businesses typically use
- Working capital for payroll, rent and inventory, especially around seasonal swings.
- Equipment financing for restaurants, manufacturers, contractors and transport companies.
- Term loans for renovations, a second location or buying out a partner.
- Merchant cash advances for restaurants and retailers with strong card sales, used carefully.

Sales tax: what lenders see
Quebec charges the federal GST at 5% plus the Quebec Sales Tax (QST) at 9.975%. For most Quebec businesses, both are administered by Revenu Québec rather than the CRA, so lenders may ask for Revenu Québec statements or notices as well as CRA ones (for payroll and income tax).
Local paperwork
- Quebec enterprise number (NEQ) from the Registraire des entreprises
- GST/QST accounts in good standing with Revenu Québec
- Documents in French are fine: lenders active in Quebec read them
Be ready
Documents lenders ask for
- Your Business Number (BN), the 9-digit number from the CRA
- Recent Revenu Québec and CRA notices or statements showing GST/QST and payroll accounts are up to date
- The last 4 months of business bank statements, all pages
- Government-issued photo ID for each owner
- A void cheque or bank letter for the business account
We never ask for online banking passwords. You only send documents to a lender after you choose that lender.
Government-backed option
The federal Canada Small Business Financing Program is available in Quebec through participating banks and credit unions. CELER Funding can refer you to lenders that offer it; we are not a program partner and the lender makes the decision.
