What businesses use
What Alberta businesses typically use

Sales tax: what lenders see
Alberta has no provincial sales tax: businesses charge only the federal GST at 5%, administered by the CRA. Lenders still look for GST and payroll source deductions in good standing with the CRA.
Local paperwork
- Business registered through the Alberta Corporate Registry (or federally incorporated)
- WCB-Alberta coverage if your industry requires it: some construction lenders ask for a clearance letter
- GST account in good standing with the CRA
Be ready
Documents lenders ask for
- Your Business Number (BN), the 9-digit number from the CRA
- Recent CRA notices or statements showing GST/HST and payroll accounts are up to date
- The last 4 months of business bank statements, all pages
- Government-issued photo ID for each owner
- A void cheque or bank letter for the business account
We never ask for online banking passwords. You only send documents to a lender after you choose that lender.
Government-backed option
The federal Canada Small Business Financing Program is available in Alberta through participating banks and credit unions. CELER Funding can refer you to lenders that offer it; we are not a program partner and the lender makes the decision.
FAQ
Alberta business funding questions
Does no PST make a difference to lenders?
Not directly. Lenders look at your deposits, time in business and credit. It does mean one fewer tax account for them to check.
My customers pay in 60 to 90 days. What fits?
Invoice factoring or a line of credit usually fits better than a short-term advance, because the cost is tied to how long you actually wait.
Is the CSBFP available in Alberta?
Yes. The Canada Small Business Financing Program is federal and offered through participating financial institutions in every province. We can refer you to lenders that offer it.
Can you help with equipment bought at auction or used?
Some equipment lenders finance used equipment and private or auction purchases; others only finance dealer sales. Tell us what you are buying and we will point you to the right ones.
